In Ayurveda, it is said that components & functioning of nature is similar to our body components and its functions. Pancha Mahabhuta theory states that everything in the physical creation is composed of these 5 elements. The very first element that comes to existence is akash (Ether). It is the most expansive and least concrete of all. The next element derived is Vayu (Air) then comes Agni (Fire), then Jala (water) element is formed and lastly Prithvi (earth) element is formed.
The science of understanding our nature or our constitution is the science of Tridosha. Tridosha defines the three fundamental energies or principles which govern the function of our bodies on the physical and emotional level. The three energies are known as vata, pitta, and kapha. This chapter explains about the characteristics and qualities of each prakriti. This also includes all the specific health ailments that can occur in aggravated form of any dosha.
The concept of Prakriti analysis makes Ayurveda unique from all other medicinal systems. This is the basis on which Ayurveda works and herbs are given. Each body type has a set of characteristics and possible health ailments if aggravated. A set of questions are made and asked so as to know about the prakriti of a person. It explains in detail the three prakritis and their combinations.
One of the primary characteristics of an Ayurvedic diet is that you eat according to your dominant constitutional type or dosha. You can think of your dosha as your most prominent energy. There are three different Ayurvedic doshas that derive from five different elements: space, air, fire, water, and earth. Each element provides different qualities or attributes. Those who practice an Ayurvedic lifestyle believe that each of us embodies all three doshas. Your prominent dosha will determine your eating style.

In the modern times there are hundreds of fasting methods or ways that are talked about. Some benefit the body whereas others might harm the body in some way. Ayurveda recognizes the uniqueness of each individual, there are tools we can use to help us choose what will be most beneficial for us at any given time. Ayurveda has a long tradition of utilizing fasting as a vital practice for maintaining and regaining health. In our society, fasting is often viewed as a type of denial or deprivation, but you can instead choose to see fasting as a gift to yourself, a much needed rest from the constant barrage of foods and experiences that you take into your body. Welcome to the Ayurvedic approach to fasting!
The nowadays trendy - alkaline diet is based on a theory that some foods cause your body to produce acid, which is harmful. The hope is that by eating certain foods or drinking certain kinds of beverages, you can change the body's acid level, also called its pH levels. Learning about this diet can help prevent a number of illnesses in the body for specific individuals.
Gluten-sensitive enteropathy, more commonly called celiac disease, is an autoimmune inflammatory disease of the small intestine that is precipitated by the ingestion of gluten, a component of wheat protein, in genetically susceptible persons. If food combinations are taken care of, then we can avoid many illnesses and digestive issues which nowadays require a lot of medicinal care. This chapter provides an insight to all the wrong combinations of foods that are not supposed to be eaten together.
